New York’s Solar DER capacity continues its growth, but capacity additions have been slowed by Covid-19 and supply chain issues.
In 2011 New York set a goal of 5,000 MW of installed PV solar capacity by 2025. At the end of 2021 actual installed solar DER capacity across all utility service areas totaled just over 3,000 MW. While this may be somewhat discouraging, there is a substantial backlog of approved but not yet installed projects in the queue.
The total backlog of solar projects across all utilities exceeds 5,800 megawatts, with over 70% of the backlog since 2019. The chart below reflects the annual additions to the project backlog, by utility service area.
